Our first #datenight in Tokyo: Dinner under the Tokyo Tower, drinks in the sky!

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

Now that we're reunited and no longer doing #LongDistanceLovinWithLittles (You can read all about that adventure here: https://www.lovealwaysjas.com/single-post/2019/03/14/Long-distance-lovin-with-littles), Julian doesn't even have the privilege of going to the bathroom in peace. I yell through the door so we can continue our convos, and if he's like, "Hey, I'm going to run to the store real quick," I'm like, "Okay, cool! Me too! Let me get my shoes." hahaha

Poor hubs.

No, he loves it. Lol!

Now that we've been back under the same roof for about a month, we're settling into our new home in Tokyo, establishing a routine, and starting to be intentional about our #datenights again. And by intentional, I mean, I already have them scheduled on our calendar and the sitter booked for the rest of the year. LOL

The idea is fo us to alternate who plans each date night. Hubs went first, and of course, in true Julian-fashion, he blew me away. The night was like something from a movie.

A private Teppanyaki dinner at the foot of the Tokyo Tower, then drinks 33 floors above the city.

Service at Katsura Steakhouse was impeccable, the food was was flavorful and fresh and the bubbly was flowing! https://www.princehotels.co.jp/takanawa/restaurant/katsura/

Speaking of the food, two things to note:

1. The waiter asked if we had any food allergies but then he didn't fully understand how we were explaining my gluten-allergy, so I typed it into my Google Translator App (God bless Google) and the waiter got it right away. He then made sure to bring me gluten-free soy sauce and made it clear that the other dipping options he brought Julian were not GF. Little things like finding GF food, or an establishment that takes your allergies seriously, and has other options for you goes a long way when you're still trying to figure out how to navigate a new country and language with a food allergy. So thank you GF-friendly Katsura!

2. I was looking at the menu and noticed there was something that said "Fish" and then something that said "Fresh Prawn" so I'm like well why would we get regular fish when we could get something that's fresh? (LOL!!! If I only knew) So we order the fresh prawn, and the thing was still alive!!!!!!! I almost died.

Julian got a kick out of that!

After dinner, we went up to the 33rd floor of The Prince Park Tower Hotel to the Stellar Garden Sky Lounge. https://www.princehotels.co.jp/parktower/restaurant/stellargarden/ What a view! We sat up there laughing, talking, connecting, looking out over the city of glittering lights, in awe that we LIVE here. Just so thankful for this adventure together.

When it comes drinks, I normally keep it simple -- stick to my champs, a rich red, or a tequila tonic if I'm feeling really fun ha -- but at the Sky Lounge we both tried a drink called The Tokyo Tower and it was really good! Strong but smooth and refreshing with a hint of pineapple. I highly recommend!

At the end of the night, we had the Taxi driver make a quick stop at McDonalds because FRENCH FRIESSSS. ha

By the way, this was my first McDonalds experience in Tokyo and those fries were amazing!

To top it all off, when we got home, our sitter had Savvy sound asleep so date night continued with some good ol' Netflix and Chill.

After 8 months of being apart, I don't take one second of this for granted! Cheers to an incredible night with my man (and a damn good babysitter)!

Love Always.

Jas
